Official Finders supplies officials for several different sports, including baseball, softball, basketball, football, and volleyball all over the Chicago metropolitan area. We are currently recruiting baseball and softball umpires for the 2017 spring/summer season. All interested officials, both adult and youth, must fill out an application. We also train youth umpires for baseball and softball recreational leagues. If you are interested in becoming a youth umpire, it is mandatory that you sign up for our Youth Training Program (Please click for more information.).

Build your own schedule

We assign all of our games and process payroll through the website ArbiterSports. After submitting your application, you will be sent an invite from us to sign up at ArbiterSports, which is where you will receive all of your game assignments. Once you are linked in to Arbiter, you will be able to build your own schedule, which allows you to work close to home. With the freedom of choosing your own schedule, you are able to work when and where you like.

Any official 18 years old or older is required to be certified through the IHSA (Illinois High School Association) to get patched. Patched officials are screened through background checks, educated through training clinics and rule books, and required to pass an open book exam. In an effort to help new umpires, we will be hosting a couple of study sessions with more experienced officials to ensure they feel adequately prepared for the exam. We will be hosting several USSSA tournaments, which will require USSSA certification. If interested in becoming USSSA certified, click here for more information.

Proper Attire

All officials are required to be properly dressed in professional attire. That does not mean that all attire must be expensive and/or brand new. There are several ways to go about acquiring the proper uniform and equipment needed for the job. Many new officials have had success finding used equipment at Play It Again Sports, or online at various websites like CraigsList or Facebook. Of course, there are many other places to get outfitted that are popular among officials, such as Gerry Davis Sports, Honig’s Whistle Shop, or even Amazon. This is not an exhaustive list but just a few we have used and can recommend. Click here for a complete list of needed equipment.

Compensation for games worked will depend upon the sport and level of game. For example, a softball umpire can expect $50 per game which requires an IHSA-certified umpire, or between $40-50 per game for tournaments. Youth umpires can expect to make $25-$35 per game. All amounts will be posted up front on ArbiterSports along with game assignments. Payday is the 15th of each month, which covers all games worked in the previous month. Some examples: every games worked from June 1st to June 30th will be paid on July 15th. All July games from the 1st to the 31st will be paid on August 15th, etc… All payments are processed through ArbiterSports’ sister website, ArbiterPay. Payments can be made effortlessly once an official has linked their ArbiterPay account to their bank account.
